Disgorging Sparkling Wine @ Kramer

This May I spent a morning with Kim Kramer and her folks at Kramer Vineyards helping them disgorge 10 cases of sparkling wine. We shot video to make a short primer on the finishing process after secondary fermentation has occurred in the bottle. Continue reading

Oregon White Wines Score

Recently Wine Spectator released their listing of Oregon wine scores for 2008 in their Jan 31-Feb 28, 2011 issue. 510 wines from Oregon (vintages ranging from 2005-2009) were listed, of which 110 were white wines including Albariño, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, and several white blends. Revisiting the White Wines of 2010

As the end of 201o is nearing, I’ve been reading through many of my tasting notes from this year. My first full year in Oregon I realize that I’ve tasted a lot of wines, and had the opportunity to meet lots of wonderful people around Portland, the Willamette Valley, the Columbia Gorge, Walla Walla, and Bainbridge Island. Hopefully in the coming year I will have ample opportunity to visit even more of the tasting rooms in these regions and visit some new ones as well (I’m determined to get to both Idaho and BC this year!).
